A Great Beginning to the Best Summer Ever!
Sometimes the strangest things happen at 2 :30 a.m!
In an instant I am awake and my brain is mid thought. I check the clock on my phone. I can barely make out the blurry numbers, but see that it’s 2:30 a.m. I have often been accused of having my brain in overdrive. It’s no surprise that I am awake. Since my phone is in hand, I decide to check the emails that came in after my 9:30 p.m. bedtime. As I scroll through my inbox, the memo line “Re: 100 Miles” catches my attention. I recognize the sender’s name as the “First Lady of Robbinsdale”, Kris Murphy. She is married to honorable Mayor Reagan Murphy. The message was short and invited me and my girls to participate in the Birdtown 100 Challenge. Even at this insane early hour, there is no doubt that I will say yes to this challenge. I also make the executive decision that my girls will join me. The challenge consists of biking, walking or running 100 miles within the month of June. As a bonus, you get a super sweet, lightweight pullover sweatshirt with our Birdtown logo on it. You are welcome, girls! After typing my response to Kris, accepting her invitation, my thumb hovers over the send button as I consider the time and wonder… does Kris have her email alert sounds off? SEND!! Sorry, Kris!
At this point, most people would be thinking, go to sleep, go to sleep, GO.TO.SLEEP. Me? I attempt to get cozy and start thinking about my appearance on Twin Cities Live later in the afternoon. TCL is rolling out #TCLBestSummerEver. I realize this is the perfect opportunity to live stream the ideas bouncing around my head to my Twin Cities Live producer, Mike. Yes, I realize the time, but if I don’t act on my brainstorm, by morning I will never remember.
-Email #1… Mike! I want to incorporate a fitness challenge into the #TCLBestSummerEver campaign. What do you think? SEND!
-Email #2… Mike! Do you think we could have an entire summer walking campaign? How about #WalkWithMe? I can meet people in parks across the city and we can walk together, so they can #WalkWithMe too! SEND!
-Email #3… Mike! Do you think we can get Robbinsdale involved in the broadcast? Maybe give our local Birdtown Club a shout out? Maybe viewers across the metro might want to be involved in the Birdtown 100 too? SEND!
When I arrived on the set at TCL later that day, I was greeted with laughter about how much work I got done while everyone else was asleep. The Twin Cities Live crew, thankfully, loved the ideas and took it one step further. They have decided to do an event in Robbinsdale, aka Birdtown. This is an opportunity for YOU to come out and have some fun with me and the crew. It will also be an opportunity for my fellow Birdtowners to show off their town. I am excited for the opportunity to meet viewers and tell you about the #WalkWithMe program.
If you would like to participate, go to the TCL Event Registration Page and enter.

If you are not on my email contact list, consider yourself lucky!! If you are, you may want to set your phone on silent. You just never know when a brainstorm moment will hit me!
